Manifesto Games has now launched. This is an attempt to sell computer games written by individuals or SMEs direct to us, and avoid the stranglehold of the major retail chains and the 'amrs race' of the major games makers.
They seem to be responding quickly to public comments - see comments by Cliffski and response by Greg Costikyan, for example.
Good luck to them. Anything that encourages individuality and opportunity ouside the large game companies has to be worth watching.
Note for instance a game called 'Cloud', about which the site says: "Cloud is a conscious attempt to create a [...game...] that induces feelings of peace and serenity--unlike most games which seek to create edge-of-the-seat tension." I'm downloading it now. (To be fair, it was written with the help of a grant from Electronic Arts...)
